Your first session
Fifty minutes, in person or by video, at a pace you can manage.
- 01
Step 1: Before you come
You'll get a link to the practice's intake forms through its own client portal. Fill in what you can, and leave what you can't.
- 02
Step 2: Arriving
Come as you are. If you bring the baby, feeding or soothing in the room is fine. For a video session, find a private spot, and headphones help. Dr. Newsome is licensed in California, so video is for clients there.
- 03
Step 3: The conversation
We talk about the past weeks and months, how you're sleeping and eating, who is helping at home, and what you hope this time can be. You don't have to tell the whole story at once.
- 04
Step 4: The end of the hour
We go over what we heard, how often to meet and what feels right to try first. You decide whether to continue.
Good to know
What this is not
Dr. Newsome is a psychologist. She doesn't prescribe medication or give medical or obstetric advice, and a first session isn't an emergency service.
What stays private
What you say is private, with the limits the law sets: serious danger to yourself or someone else, and concern about a child's safety. She explains them at the start.
How it is paid
You get the fee in writing before we begin. The How fees work page covers receipts for reimbursement and the written estimate.
